We have successfully completed a number of residential and commercial roofing projects in the Clifton Park, Halfmoon and Mechanicville areas. Clifton Park has been one of the top growing areas in the Capital Region for the past decade. Consequently, traffic has increased forcing the town and surrounding municipalities to address the need to upgrade the most frequently-traveled areas. It is comprised of Ballston Lake, Clifton Park Center, Elnora, Flagler Corners, Grooms Corners, Ushers, Crescent and Round Lake.
We have seen new housing developments sprout up as well as luxury apartment complexes, all requiring professional roofing solutions. We had the pleasure of being involved in a number of these and are excited to work with individual homeowners equally as much.
We thought to invest some time to discuss what is so amazing about the Clifton Park area these days. Is located 15 minutes north of Albany and 20 minutes south of Saratoga Springs. It is such a great and central location right off the Northway that allows people easy access to the main highway and get around the region in short order.
Clifton Park has a population of just over 40,000 people and is seeing increases on the outskirts of the area. There are a blend of older homes from the 1970s as well as new developments that are being built every single year. There still substantial farmland and pastures around but that area is getting gobbled up by developers very rapidly.
Clifton Park is home to Shendehowa school district, the second largest in the Capital Region. It is known to have a tremendously successful athletic program at all levels and the school district continues to grow. The town periodically hosts the Babe Ruth World Series for boys baseball so if you enjoy stuff like that, definitely check it out.
There have been many shops and stores opening up on 146 and Route 9 over the past couple of years giving people an abundance of options. Uncommon Ground is the most recent addition, having taken over the space where Starbucks was. They are dominating with great food and coffee. If you love to eat out, Pasta Pane and Wheatfields are two outstanding choices that will not disappoint.
If you are a sandwich lover, you must check out Halfmoon Sandwich Shoppe on Route 9.
If you’ve got kids, you will have an abundance of options when the weather is moderate: Vischer Ferry has great hiking trails along the Mohawk River. You can take the kids down to the power plant where they can throw rocks and find one to 2 foot long fish in the pools along the banks.
Or, you can take them to Hayes Nature Preserve on Moe Road which was built 6 years ago as a gravel woods trail shaped like a figure eight. There is an abundance of wildlife that still around the area. There is also a hidden gem known as Indian kill which is off Hetcheltown Road on the western tip of Clifton Park. There are amazing trails with extremely old hemlock and maple trees along with a waterfall at the dam. One of my favorites is Kinn’s Road Park which is north off Bruno Road. It is a great mature forest with many trails that lead down to the water and is perfect if you have a dog or one take the kids for a hike through the woods.
If you like to shoot, there is the fish and game Club on Englemore that requires a member to sponsor you.
Everyone in the area knows about Clifton Commons where the fireworks are on display for Independence Day weekend. The wooden park behind the ice-skating rink is still available for kids to play. There were talks of removing the park as it was getting older but friends of ours that sit on the board were able to work to have it renovated as it is a memorable place where many people in their 30s spent their childhood.
If you find yourself stuck with rainy weather, you can visit The Edge Halfmoon on Route 9 across from the Walmart in Halfmoon. It is a state of the art and one of a kind indoor rock climbing facility that offers birthday parties and scheduled classes to learn how to top rope and boulder.
Powers Irish Pub is on Route 9 heading north out of Clifton Park on Farm to Market Road. There have been many stories that the place is haunted where you can ask employees of the strange experiences they had late at night in the upper rooms. They have a tremendous offering of craft beers and the place itself is over 300 years old. If you are interested in whiskey, there is a great distillery on Ushers Road off exit 10 called Yankee Distillers. We actually had purchased a Groupon and took the tour through the distillery learning a lot about how whiskey is made. Great experience for sure. Across the street is Scmaltz Brewing Company For anyone interested in craft beers and a commitment to excellence.
If you are family oriented and are looking for a great church, Northway Church Just opened up their new location off exit 10 and is home to a state of the art facility where people from all areas come every Sunday.
Clifton Park real estate is the most coveted in the Capital Region. There is a shortage of available inventory of homes for sale which has seen a rise in the luxury apartment market. Many of the local builders have built luxury apartment communities for this reason which has caused housing prices in general too soar. It is extremely important to do your research and look for properties in some of the older communities that have been well cared for. There is no shortage of great homes to purchase in the area.
Clifton Park is truly a great area to raise a family as it is very safe and offers many outdoor opportunities to explore with your family. Unfortunately, there is no downtown scene so if that is something you’re looking for, you will have to venture north to Saratoga Springs or to downtown Albany.
There is much to offer and much to experience so make sure to invest some time and checking out the area.
